412 : Diabolici Triple Blond Ale

Diabolici Triple Blond Ale. One fine Belgian ale that should - of course - be enjoyed out of the appropriate glassware.
I am posting this photo on Halloween 2018 - seems right! Enjoy!

According to the company literature, the recipe for this beer dates to the beginning of time, being brewed by a group of "teasers, rascals and mischief makers: real little devils." All of these entities were "born in a mash tub." The beer these little demons make is called Diabolici, and the recipe is a closely guarded, old ancestral secret. Sounds all a bit far-fetched, but hey, who are we to argue.
If you were to take a blind taste test of Diabolici you would probably say: Well, it's strong, perhaps a blond, and most likely from Belgium. And, you would be correct on all three counts. It is a reasonably strong blond beer, so control yourself and don't let the rascals steer you down the wrong path.
Although it is claimed to be brewed at the gates of Hell, - yes characterized as a triple blond, or as the company calls it, a Blond from Hell - Diabolici is actual brewed at one of the John Martin family of Belgian breweries.  The fact that the name "John Martin" (1886-1966) doesn't sound so much Belgian is because he was actually an Englishman who came to Belgium in 1909, looking to start making beer. Still in the family - currently run by his grandson Anthony - Martin breweries make a large variety of beers. We would certainly like to try them all.
I am not sure how many of them have made the trip over here to North America. I had a couple of bottles of Diabolici ship over - thank goodness they were big bottles.

Check back here on a regular basis. Cheers!
